The Mayor received a request from Carmel Cares to present a proclamation, symbolizing the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea's commitment to a cleaner environment through active participation in the nationwide "Greatest American Cleanup" event, in partnership with Keep America Beautiful. The proclamation serves as both a call to action and a celebration for residents of our cherished village.
Background
Founded in 1953, Keep America Beautiful (KAB) is a national nonprofit that promotes community enhancement, reducing litter, and recycling. The annual "Great America Cleanup" event involves 20,000 communities across the nation. Initiatives like this provide support for affiliates, such as Carmel Cares, to plan local events focused on recycling, conservation, clean-up, beautification, and community improvement.
Dale Byrne, President of Carmel Cares nonprofit, has generously volunteered to organize three (3) clean-up, recycling, and beautification activities in Carmel, encouraging widespread community and involvement to uphold a clean, green, and beautiful environment. In a discussion with the City Administrator, Mr. Byrne represented that he did not believe the additional public events would impact the capacity of City staff. Accordingly, the City Administrator recommends that the City Council support the Proclamation.
Summary
The Proclamation aims to reaffirm Carmel-by-the-Sea's dedication to a vibrant, environmentally conscious, and interconnected community through active involvement in "The Greatest American Cleanup" in collaboration with Carmel Cares.
