On July 31, 2023, the City received a letter stating that the Crawford Lee-Mills Fund of the Petoskey Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation is awarding a $7,500 grant to the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea in “support the Carmel-by-the-Sea Police Department in appreciation of Jeff Watkins’ service” (Attachment 2).
The Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation (“Community Foundation”) is a Michigan-based non-profit whose mission is to “help enrich the lives of our elders, supporting programs for children, reaching out to friends and neighbors in need, expanding parks and recreational activities, protecting our environment, enhancing health services and bringing more music, art, and cultural opportunities to our area.”
The grant is awarded in honor of Acting Police Chief Watkins on behalf of Catherine, Nicola, and Blitzen Sebastiani. The grant funds will be earmarked towards outfitting a new police vehicle for the Carmel Police Department as we update our aging fleet and outdated technological equipment.
The City already received the check for $7,500 from the Community Foundation. In accordance with the City Council Donation and Gift Policy (Policy 2017-02), City Council must authorize acceptance of any grant funds over $2,500.
