In June 2019, the City Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2019/20 Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which included the Climate Change and Resilience Plan (Plan). The description of the project was to “ascertain impacts of climate change” and “identify and prioritize specific measures to minimize adverse impacts from climate change.”
In August 2019, the City Council opted to have a working group composed of two Councilmembers, two staff members, and up to four members of the public to develop the City’s Plan. Council appointed two Council Members, Mr. Jeff Baron and Ms. Carrie Theis, to lead the working group. Two staff members, Mr. Marc Wiener, Community Planning and Building Director, and Ms. Agnes Martelet, Environmental Compliance Manager, have been appointed to the working group by the City Administrator. Councilmembers Baron and Theis were tasked by Council to recommend members of the public to serve on this working group, which would be ratified by the Council.
The following Carmel-by-the-Sea residents were consulted and agreed to serve on the working group:
- John Hill, AIA, Architectural Consultant, owner of Yeast of Eden. Mr. Hill’s letter of interest and professional profile are included as Attachment 1.
- Michael LePage, Chairman of Carmel’s Planning Commission. Mr. LePage’s letter of interest is included in Attachment 2.
- Scott Lonergan, Market Intelligence Manager and Friends of Mission Trail Nature Preserve Board Member. Mr. Lonergan’s letter of interest and resume are included as Attachment 3.
- LaNette Zimmerman, Human Resources Executive. Ms. Zimmerman’s letter of interest and resume are included in Attachment 4.
These members were chosen for their diverse range of skills and knowledge, and for their dedication to sustainability and resilience in the face of Climate Change. With these members of the public, the Climate Change and Resilience Plan Working Group can begin work on the City’s plan to address Climate Change in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
